MVTHS Jones wins FIRST Dean's List award

I:\beag180340\Desktop\Roboheaderfixed.pngTeam 4187, the Mt. Vernon RoboRams, are proud to help celebrate the accomplishments of our very own FIRST Dean’s List recipient, Joseph Jones, and Woodie Flowers recipient, Robert Cooper.  Please help us congratulate these two outstanding individuals and wish them luck as they compete at the 2024 World Championship in Houston, Texas!

MVTHS' Joe Jones was named to the First Robotics Dean's List. Students who earn FIRST Dean’s List Award status as a Semi-finalists, Finalist or Winner, are great examples of student leaders who have led their teams and communities to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission. It is the goal of FIRST that these individuals will continue, post-award, as great leaders, student alumni, and advocates of FIRST.

Robotics coach Karen Slous said, “Joe, an integral member of Team 4187's Outreach Department, has demonstrated remarkable dedication in engaging with neighboring schools. His involvement includes educating students on robotics fundamentals and guiding them in programming FLL robots. Joe's commitment extends beyond these visits; he actively fosters connections with each PR member to ensure their consistent participation in team activities. Thanks to his efforts, Team 4187 has experienced one of its most dynamic and successful PR seasons to date!”

MVTHS Robotics coach Rob Cooper was awarded the FIRST Woodie Flowers Award. The Woodie Flowers Award celebrates effective communication in the art and science of engineering and design.

Dr. William Murphy founded this prestigious award in 1996 to recognize mentors who lead, inspire and empower using excellent communication skills. The Woodie Flowers Award (WFA) is presented to one WFFA winner at the FIRST Championship.

Woodie Flowers was a professor of mechanical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was one of the co-creators of the FIRST organization.

“Robert Cooper is the most exemplary mentor of what FIRST and Gracious Professionalism is about.  He has inspired students to go above and beyond.  He has made a difference in our community.  He has sacrificed so much for our team, including long nights away from his family, which in my opinion is the biggest sacrifice a mentor can give," said  Rachelle Bolerjack-Burk. " I thank Laura Cooper for her never wavering support of Rob and our team. Without the Coopers, FRC Team 4187 would not exist today.
