OEHM Winners

The 2023-2024 winners of the Frederick Oehm, Sr. Scholarship Award are Olivia Baumhoegger, Ann Binu, and Izak Wisneski.  The winners were selected based on their submissions on a topic selected by the Mt. Vernon High Township School Board of Education.  The topic for this year’s scholarship competition was:

Laurence D. Fink once said "One of the key elements of human behavior is, humans have a greater fear of loss than enjoyment of success."

Many high school students today do not reach their full potential due to the overwhelming fear of loss.  Describe a time that you faced the fear of losing and tried anyway, overcoming obstacles, to ultimately achieve a goal you had set.

Be sure to include a strong thesis, evidence, and commentary in your essay or substantial supporting evidence in your project.


Other criteria for the award were academic achievement, career objectives, activities, and attendance.  Applicants had to be a graduating senior who will enroll in a college, university, or specialized institution of training no later than the fall semester after high school graduation.
